Is happening in Old & St Andrew's !
Messy Church is a Christian initiative that is fast growing in lots of church communities. Messy Church is specifically aimed at young families who have a wish to belong to their local church and bring up their children in the church family but are not generally at ease in a traditional Sunday morning church service. Messy Church is a very informal gathering of young families and children (children having to be accompanied by an adult), not normally held at the traditional morning service time.
For some time now we we in Old and St Andrews we have been looking at ways in which we can further develop our Summer Mission and also meet the needs of our young families who bring their children for baptism or blessings but who do not necessarily feel comfortable in a traditional church setting. After much prayer and consideration we have decided to offer Messy Church which is "church" but in a non formal and relaxed way. So what can you expect at Messy Church?
Messy Church is:-
A church for adults and children to enjoy together.
It's primarily for young families who may not otherwise attend a traditional church service but it is "all age".
It's fun.
It's Messy (hence the name!)
It's aim is to provide an opportunity for families to encounter Jesus and to grow closer to him as a family (both in a personal way and in the church family)
There are crafts to explore a chosen biblical theme
There are songs, prayers and games
There is an opportunity to eat a "snack" meal together and develop friendships within the church family.
Our next "Messy Church" is on Sunday 12th May 2013 in the church halls and will run from 4 - 5.30pm. If you and your family are interested in coming along please complete a Messy Registration Form (please note there is a requirement that all children must be accompanied by an adult).
