The Rev. Dr. Ian McLean - A Profile

Dr. McLean is married to Elaine and has two children - Gavin who works with an oil company and Laura at University in Aberdeen. Before coming to Montrose in 2008 Dr. McLean was Minister of Summerhill Parish Church, Aberdeen for many years leading it from Church extension position to full status. He was Chaplain at Fernielea Primary School, Hazlewood Special School and Hazlehead Academy and served as Clerk to the Presbytery of Aberdeen from 2002 until 2008. Dr. McLean was Assistant Minister at Bearsden South Parish Church from 1980 – 1981 and served as Seaman and Seaman Officer in the Royal Naval Reserve (part time) from 1974 - 1984. He is a member of the Judicial Commission and previously his responsibilities in the wider Church have included Vice Convener of the General Assembly's Legal Questions Cttee.; Convener, New Charge Commission at Cove. Member, Board of Ministry Working Party on Enquiry & Assessment; Convener, Local Involvement, Board of World Mission. He has regularly acted as Supervisor of Candidates for the Ministry including probationers.

Currently, Dr McLean is Interim Moderator at Arbroath Knox’s linked with St Vigean’s and he is assisting with the UK Oil & Gas Chaplaincy (on a call out basis) so has had a few visits to offshore installations to offer pastoral care.
Academically Dr. McLean has a BSc from Edinburgh, a BD Hons. from Edinburgh and a Doctor of Ministry Degree from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. His "outside interests" include being a member of Scottish Rugby Union's Senior Referee Coaches Panel, coaching referees in the Premier League.
