Old and St. Andrew's Church, Montrose

SUNDAY SCHOOL

The Sunday School meets during morning worship time commencing the first Sunday after day schools return from the summer holidays through until the 1st Sunday in June which is our Annual Prize-Giving Service. We meet in the church hall and go to church together as a group for the first part of morning worship which is geared for children and relates to our lesson afterwards.

On returning to the church hall we split into different age groups, at present we have an average of 10 3/4 year olds, 30 5/7 year olds and 20 8/11 year olds attending each week. Here we explore the biblical theme/story for the day more thoroughly according to age groups by playing games, listening to stories, craft activities and responding to Jesus' call to be our friend by sharing fun (and sometimes food) with each other. We fully encourage involvement from the church congregation and indeed the wider community around us. Members of the congregation come to share their talents with us and we go on outings to reinforce lessons. Previous visits have been to Montrose Wildlife Centre, Montrose Beach, Forfar Guide Dog Centre and Jonah's Journey in Aberdeen.

These "days out" are of paramount importance as not only do they reinforce our lessons, they also enable us to share fellowship with the children and not just teach it. All children are made very welcome, whether attending regularly or if they are visiting the area for a short while.
