Tom Long. Tom was born in Glasgow of Irish parents. The eldest of five. he had a strict, spartan but not unhappy upbringing. He was nurtured in the Evangelical Religion of the day – Sankey’s Sacred Songs and solos – which became a verbal inspiration to him . He was a late entry aged 29 – via Glasgow University and Theological College - into the Baptist Ministry. He held charges at Fraserburgh and Aberdeen. He became a Wartime Padre at home and abroad – ministering in Africa, Sicily, Italy, Palestine. Later a change of heart and mind led him to an escape into Teaching. His first post in 1954 was at Montrose Academy in the English Department. Thereafter he held several posts:- namely Primary Dept ( Montrose Academy) Ferryden (Headteacher) and lastly Advisor (R.E.). He was pressurised by ex-Chaplain Frederick Kennedy into assisting in the Ministry at the Old Church 1954 – an association which he reluctantly entered into but now greatly treasures.

Linda Watt As Beadle of this marvellous church I am delighted to carry on my family’s tradition. As most of you already know my Grandfather was beadle of Middlefield church in Aberdeen as too was my late Mother. I feel so fortunate to be part of a great church where I have made lots and lots of friends even more since we joined with St Andrews. I love it when it is buzzing with lovely children on a Family Service. Also I love to come and be on my own and I can’t imagine my life without this place, just like home! Outside of the church my hobbies are keeping fit. After having five wonderful children from the ages of 17 down to 8 there’s a lot of hard work to get back my fitness. I attend the gym everyday except on Sundays. I do body pump, hips thighs, tums and bums and swimming. I have been part of the P.T.A at Southesk school for 12 years.
